Is pepperoni halal?
Pepperoni is the most popular pizza topping in the US — and one of the easiest places to miss pork, especially on pizza, snack packs and lunch kits.

What pepperoni is made of
Traditional pepperoni is a cured sausage of pork, or a pork and beef blend. The same goes for most salami and chorizo; prosciutto, pancetta and guanciale are always pork.
| Label says | Standard | Dhabiha |
|---|---|---|
| Pepperoni (pork / pork and beef) | Haram | Haram |
| Beef pepperoni, turkey pepperoni | Halal | Haram unless certified |
| Halal pepperoni | Halal | Halal |
Watch out for
- Pizza and frozen meals — “pepperoni” on the box usually means pork.
- Casings — some sausages use pork casings even when the meat isn’t pork.
- Snack packs and lunch kits with salami or pepperoni.
How Halal Pal checks it
The halal scanner flags pepperoni, salami and chorizo as pork unless another meat is named — so “turkey pepperoni” isn’t flagged in Standard mode, while Dhabiha mode still flags it unless the product is halal-certified. Dhabiha vs. standard
Frequently asked questions
Is turkey pepperoni halal?
Turkey pepperoni doesn’t contain pork, so it’s acceptable for many Muslims. If you only eat dhabiha meat, look for halal-certified turkey pepperoni.
Is beef pepperoni halal?
It avoids pork. It’s fully halal when the beef was slaughtered Islamically — look for halal certification.
Is salami halal?
Most salami contains pork. Beef or turkey salami avoids pork; halal-certified salami is also made from halal-slaughtered meat.
